Welcome to 7th Grade Science! My name is Mr. Hayes, and I am excited to be your child's science teacher this year at LaFollette Middle School. I believe science is more than just a subject—it's a way of thinking. My goal is to create a classroom where students are encouraged to ask questions, investigate the world around them, solve problems, and develop the curiosity that drives scientific discovery. Every student will have opportunities to participate in hands-on labs, collaborative activities, and real-world learning experiences that make science engaging and meaningful.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and am currently pursuing my Master of Education in Instruction and Curriculum at Carson-Newman University. My educational journey has strengthened my passion for teaching and has equipped me with strategies to help students become confident, independent learners. I am committed to creating lessons that challenge students while making learning enjoyable and accessible for everyone.
Outside of the classroom, I am proud to serve as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at LaFollette Middle School. Coaching and athletics have helped shape the way I teach by showing me the importance of teamwork, discipline, hard work, and building strong relationships with students. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or around the school, I want students to know that I care about their success and will push them to be their best.
I look forward to partnering with families throughout the school year to help every student succeed. Together, we can make this an exciting year filled with discovery, growth, and achievement. Remember, in our classroom we will always strive to Think Like a Scientist. Work Like an Engineer. Never Stop Asking Questions!
